Advanced MechatronicNon-contact infrared line heater system for PCB wire soldering with automated solder paste dispensing
The customer's product required an operator to insert approximately six wires into plated holes of a printed circuit board.
The product was then placed in a fixture that an air cylinder moved at constant speed under a stylus dispensing solder paste over the wires. At the same time, the previous unit was soldered by a non-contact infrared line heater, with a metal mask protecting the rest of the assembly from radiant heat.
The process eliminated tinning and maintenance of soldering irons and significantly improved the reliability of the solder joints.
| Application | Wire-to-PCB soldering (approx. 6 wires per board) |
|---|---|
| Fixture drive | Air cylinder, constant-speed traverse |
| Solder application | Stylus-dispensed solder paste |
| Throughput | Paste dispense and solder cycle run simultaneously |
| Heat source | Non-contact infrared line heater |
|---|---|
| Heat masking | Metal mask protects the surrounding assembly |
| Benefits | No iron tinning or maintenance; improved joint reliability |
